My work experience with Socomep

Socomep deals with big Tuna vessels and their requests for tests to be done on the fish. However, somehow I seemed to have had the courage and perseverance to pick myself up and try again. |
Placed in the lab under the guidance of Mr Tahira, Miss Julie and Miss Jill I was well taught important rules, concepts and general ways of dealing with fish. All three of them were extremely welcoming. I was educated about how to calibrate our equipment, the species of tuna, the accurate ways of cutting the fish for the different tests, what to wear during the tests, how to perform the tests and how to pack and label the fish to be sent to either to SBS or abroad for further and more complex tests such as, heavy metal or microbiological. I mainly cut the fish and performed tests like salt, histamine and organoleptic. Although I was based in the lab, because we dealt directly with the fishing vessels, when necessary we went on board the vessels, therefore I had the chance to move around and learn outside of Socomep as well. I had an enjoyable time at Socomep and absorbed a lot of new information. Unfortunately like all good things my journey came to an end. It is very sad that I have to leave behind a different kind of family that I am now use to and feel comfortable with to return to school. I look forward to what’s in store for me and who knows maybe return to Socomep. I would like to thank everyone there for making me feel at home and thank you for giving the chance to discover my abilities in a different, challenging yet successful field. |
